Where are you are now and what you're doing:

As of 2021, I work full time in the Communications, Education and Engagement Department at the international Gemini Observatory, a Program of NSFʻs NOIRLab in Hilo, Hawaiʻi. My main projects include Journey Through the Universe and managing NOIRLab social media channels. I am also a student again, working on an ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian Language) certificate at Ka Haka ʻUla O Keʻelikōlani.

Brief bio:

I grew up in Waimānalo and Kāneʻohe on Oʻahu. When I graduated from Castle High School, I wanted to be a big shot editor on the mainland. In my first year at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, I fell in love with Astronomy and Maunakea. I moved to Hilo in 2013 to study Astronomy and learn more about my heritage of Polynesian Navigators and Astronomers. In 2015, I started interning at the outreach department of Gemini Observatory and Iʻve been there ever since. Working with students and the staff at the Maunakea Observatories, I learned that I can make a difference in the future of Hawaiʻi. Everyday I am grateful to be living in and contributing to the community that helped shape me. 

Advice for prospective/current students of UH Hilo Physics & Astronomy:

Never stop learning! Donʻt be afraid to ask for help. Astronomy is hardly ever done alone. Teamwork is essential.
